?A Diagram of Concentric Circles c.1845
D35254
Turner Bequest CCCLIII 15
Pencil on white wove paper, 221 x 330 mm
Inscribed in red ink ‘15’ bottom right (now faded)
Stamped in black ‘CCCLIII 15’ bottom right
Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
Two roughly concentric circles have been faintly drawn in pencil at the top right-hand corner. Otherwise, the page is blank, bearing adventitious marks in black and red watercolour and offsetting in black chalk from another page.
Technical Notes:
In common with others in this sketchbook, this leaf is loose of its binding. Viewed with its red ink and stamped numbers at the bottom right, it has been inverted from its original orientation; the irregular right-hand edge was detached from the spine. The surface bears offsetting in black chalk and watercolour, mirroring the offsetting on the inside of the front cover (D40442). There are some patches of discolouration, probably as a result of damage in the Tate Gallery flood of 1928.
Verso:
Blank; discoloured along the left-hand edge, bears slight offsetting in red and black chalk and central crease mark.
