The lost upper half of this page was likely (and unusually) stamped in ink by Turner with his initials and surname, of which there are a very few surviving examples dating from 1809 to 1816betwas discussed in the entry for the inside front cover opposite (D40829), where there is partial offsetting in reverse.
Technical notes:
As Finberg noted, the top half has been torn away,1 and made good with similar modern paper, perhaps during conservation work after the 1928 Tate Gallery flood.
