Turner has inverted the sketchbook relative to its present foliation to capture this outline view of Folkstone’s harbour and cliffs, looking east along the coast. Along the bottom of the sketch he appears to have written ‘Folkestone’, though the scrawled inscription is difficult to decipher precisely.
Technical Notes:
There is a dent in the left-hand edge, measuring 1mm in diameter.
