The recto, to which the ink inscriptions here refer, is D08220 (Turner Bequest CXX G), one of three pencil, pen and wash studies of harvest scenes at Cassiobury Park, Hertfordshire (see also D08216–D08217; CXX C, D). The slight pencil sketch on this side is not mentioned in Finberg’s Turner Bequest
Inventory.
1 It seems to include a group of figures towards the bottom right and loosely defined forms which may include elements of a landscape and possibly a wagon like that on the recto, but a clearer reading is hampered by extensive staining from the ink washes used there.
