Little can be made of these typically cursory day–to–day memoranda. There is also a separate note, ‘32 [...]’ towards the bottom left.

Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
Technical notes:
At the top are three bands of various small blotches and smears of ink, apparently offset from the lost original upper portion of folio 1 recto opposite (D09987), which has been made good with similar modern paper. Only an apparent ‘W’ towards the end is fully legible, possibly being a reversed offset from the ‘J M W Turner’ stamp the artist very occasionally employed; compare the 1813 Plymouth, Hamoaze sketchbook (Tate D09481, D40579; Turner Bequest CXXXI 189a, and inside front cover), and the ink initials on the back of the Cockermouth sketchbook of 1809 and the front of the Large Farnley book of about 1816 (Tate; Turner Bequest CX; CXXVIII).
