Turner made these pencil notes, a list of paint pigments, on the verso of Tate D29007 (Turner Bequest CCXCII 58) and D29009 (Turner Bequest CCXCII 59), two scenes associated with the landscape around Petworth drawn on the same sheet of grey paper. Also on the verso, to the left of these notes, he made a slight study of ships (see the entry for D29008; CCXCII 58v).
The notes appear to read:
‘White | Raw ochre | Raw sienna | Bt – | Bt Umber | R – | Black | [?Nap] Yellow’
