Continued from folio 52 verso (D13552) is a sketch of sailing vessels on the Firth of Forth. There is on this page a boat shown sailing with the wind and its sail billowing out ahead. Depicted four times is a promontory or island with a fortified structure. The second from top sketch in particular resembles Turner’s depiction of the fortified island of Inchgarvie (see folio 51; D13549).
