The location of the one-arched bridge spanning a shallow river depicted within the main scene on this page remains unidentified. However, it is likely to depict a view seen from the route south along the Toce river between Domodossola and Lake Maggiore.1
Also on the page is a small inverted sketch of mountains which Turner has annotated ‘Sim[plon]’, i.e. a scene within the Swiss Alps near the Simplon Pass.
