With the page turned vertically, at the top is a view of a lighthouse on a quay or pier; below is a jumble of sails as several vessels manoeuvre. At the bottom right, made with the page horizontal, is a continuation of the cliffs and beach, presumably on a Channel coast, which extends across folio 78 recto (D35624). See the sketchbook’s Introduction for the many slight coastal and shipping views scattered through it.
