The location of this subject cannot be precisely identified. It may be a view of part of the group of waterfalls at Devil’s Bridge, which Turner certainly visited (see introductory note to the present section).
Technical notes:
The watermark is continuous with the crown on Tate D00142 (Turner Bequest XII M) which is the other half of the original sheet. A drawing on similar paper is Tate D00140 (Turner Bequest XII K).
