Finberg guessed that this drawing shows Snowdon from Capel Curig,1 but the viewpoint is plainly closer to the mountain, which looms high over the spectator’s head. We are perhaps standing in Nant Gwynant, near Llyn Gwynant, to the south-east of the peak. Turner would have recorded the view on his way east towards Capel Curig; see folio 70 recto (D01332; Turner Bequest XXXVIII 78).
