Rendered swiftly and with a brevity of line, this sparse and cursory drawing records a landscape with three towered buildings. The same structures are shown on the view opposite (Tate D19858; Turner Bequest CCXVI 152), where Turner pictures a town from a road on its outskirts, with a carriage driving on it.
