Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, there are two studies of clusters of low buildings, probably showing different aspects of what Finberg called a ‘Fishing village’,1 presumably on a Channel coast. See the sketchbook’s Introduction for the many slight coastal views scattered through it.

Technical notes:
There is some brown staining at the gutter, possibly indicating water damage in the 1928 Tate flood.
