Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, there are two studies at the top; a further view at the bottom right is the other way up. The top left sketch is very slight, with trees on the left and the profile of buildings to the right. The central sketch, running towards the top right, is more considered, showing what appear to be two industrial chimney stacks, a low church tower and two church spires on the skyline. The chimneys suggest a Midlands identification in common with the known subjects in this sketchbook. These all seem to be the same elements shown in the more detailed drawings on folios 85 verso and 86 recto (D22137, D22138; Turner Bequest CCXXXVIII 83a, 84). The third sketch shows what appears to be the same church spire, juxtaposed with a bridge below and a chimney to the right.
