This is a sketch of Arundel in West Sussex with Arundel Castle, ancient seat of the Dukes of Norfolk, in the distance (see Tate D18418; Turner Bequest CCX 63). A ‘log’ bobs on the surface of the River Arun in the foreground. This drawing is associated with Turner’s watercolour design for W.B. Cooke’s Rivers of England: Arundel Castle on the River Arun, with a Rainbow (Tate D18139; Turner Bequest CCVIII F).1
