Across the top of this page, and continuing at the left on folio 57 verso (D26549), is a sketch of mountains with water in the foreground, which is inscribed ‘BA’ above one of the mountain peaks. This is identifiable as the summit of Ben A’an which fits the inscription. The view is therefore looking north from the western end of Loch Achray with Ben A’an to the right and the wooded hills of the Trossachs at the left on folio 57 verso. There is a similar view on folio 51 (D26536). For references to further sketches of Loch Achray and the Trossachs, see folio 49 (D26532).
Across the bottom half of the page, again continuing on folio 57 verso but drawn with the sketchbook inverted, is a sketch that David Wallace-Hadrill has suggested is a view eastward along Glen Croe, with the shoulders of Ben Ime and Ben Arthur on the left and Ben Donich on the right.1 There is a similar, though more complete sketch of this view on the reverse of this page: folio 58 verso (D26551).
