The effect of offset white chalk from the drawing on folio 37 verso opposite (D01193; Turner Bequest XXXVII 76) is to continue the subject across the opening, giving Turner’s little study of a figure and ship a broader compositional context. This is probably accidental, but Finberg listed the two pages together as a continuous drawing.
