A quick sketch, annotated with paint colours, of Danish ships seized at Copenhagen on 7 September 1807; see Introduction to the sketchbook for the historical background. According to Turner’s inscription, the stern on the right belongs to the Trekroner (Three Crowns), which
is one of the two Danish prizes depicted in Turner’s picture Spithead: Boat’s Crew Recovering an Anchor (Tate N00481),1 for which also see the Introduction. The sketch of the stern and mizzen gaff with a Danish standard seems to be a detail of the larger ship drawn on folio 4 (D06520; Turner Bequest C3).
