Bingen is depicted around a bend in the Rhine in the uppermost view, with boats in the foreground. The keep of Burg Klopp can be seen atop the hill overlooking Bingen. These sketches are inscribed ‘1’ and ‘2’. Below is a view of the Rhine looking towards the Mäuseturm and Burg Ehrenfels, seen on the cliff at right. The Custom House and old crane at ‘Bingen’ is shown in the central view. A number of such cranes, used predominantly for loading and off-loading barrels of local wine, can still be found along the Rhine. Rüdesheim and a detail of Bingen’s customhouse are pictured above a larger view of Rüdesheim at rear. A cluster of inscriptions surround the sketches at bottom left: ‘Porch Custom Hse’ ‘Rudesheim’, ‘4’, ‘Vines’, ‘3’.
