This previously unidentified drawing depicts Caister Castle, located a few kilometres north of Yarmouth. Caister is a fifteenth-century moated castle with a ninety-foot crenellated tower.1 It was constructed for Sir John Fastolf in 1432 but was besieged over thirty years later by the Duke of Norfolk and fell into ruin.2 The castle is depicted again on Tate D18180–D18182, D18184, D18201; Turner Bequest CCIX 13–14, 15, 23a.
