From just east of the town of Callander, this sketch, continued at the left on folio 18 verso (D26706; CCLXXII 22), looks west towards the town. It depicts the spire of the old Parish Church at the centre of the present page and the mountain of Ben Ledi directly above it. The view is panoramic, taking in at the left the ridge of hills to the south of the town. Wallace-Hadrill and Carolan have suggested that Turner made this sketch on his approach to the town, having travelled west from Doune.1
For further views of Callander, Ben Ledi and nearby sites, see folio 33 (D26741; CCLXXII 39a).
