This is one of a series of views, probably made running backwards in the sketchbook from folio 27 verso (D29261; Turner Bequest CCXCIV 26a), depicting Chambéry from the south-east on the road to Les Charmettes. A similar view exists in a watercolour of Chambéry (on the London art market in 1996).1
