Châtel d’Argent Castle, Val d’Aosta, is viewed here from above the tower house (known as the Tour Colin) at La Crete opposite Villeneuve, with the old church at Villeneuve in the left foreground and the lower bridge to the right. Turner’s inscriptions note ‘Grass’ to the right of the church and ‘R[?ed] color Crag [?]’ below the castle. The scenery here is more or less continued to the left in the sketch on the recto (D29322; Turner Bequest CCXCIV 59).
