At the top of this page Turner worked a slight study of the medieval city of Angers, located on the River Maine close to its confluence with the Loire. A section of the city’s medieval walls has been identified in this drawing.1 The sketch continues onto folio 25 verso (D23199; Turner Bequest CCXLVIII 25a). Turner made extensive study of Angers in this volume. A list of his drawings of the city is provided in the sketchbook introduction.
