This ‘View along the Coast’, as Finberg described it,1 looks west along the East Lothian coast towards Dunbar at the right of folio 33 (D13638; CLXVII 31b). At the top left of the present page is a church on a hill with a steeple with gothic-style pinnacles at its corners and a spire. Beneath this in the foreground are several long buildings near the shore and at the right we look along a relatively built-up part of the coast with more buildings and another spire on the horizon.
There is a pink smudge at the top left of the page transferred from Ruskin’s red ink inscription on the opposite page.
