These swiftly dashed off sketches may depict coastline on the northern French coast, near Dunkirk (see Tate D19917; Turner Bequest CCXVI 183 a). There are two views, both produced with the sketchbook orientated horizontally, with each positioned inversely to one another. The profile of a tower, probably the Tour du Leughenaer can be seen in one of the views.
