For Cockermouth Castle and Turner’s views in this sketchbook see Introduction. Finberg is surely wrong in stating that this view is from the Cocker. It is similar to the preceding folio 16 (D07555), from the Derwent, but with more emphasis on the landscape foreground, more trees and the castle appearing as little more than an outline. The foreground is denser still in folio 18 (D07557).
