The principal drawing was taken in the German city of Frankfurt and shows the cathedral from a vantage point on the Domplatz. Turner has continued the cathedral tower on Tate D30679; Turner Bequest CCCIV 26a. For more sketches of Frankfurt see Tate D30678, D30686–D30698, D30700–D30705; Turner Bequest CCCIV 26, 30–36, 37–39a.
