This sketch shows a gorge in Saxon Switzerland, with houses at the foot of it. The same gorge is shown on the folio opposite (Tate D30956; Turner Bequest CCCVI 37). The jagged rocks may suggest that the gorge is within Schrammsteine mountain range, possibly near Bad Schandau (see Tate D30948–D30970; Turner Bequest CCCVI 33–44).
