Drawn with the sketchbook inverted. Butlin and Joll note that this sketch is unrelated to Guardship at the Great Nore, Sheerness, &c (private collection), exhibited at Turner’s Gallery in 1809.1 For other possible origins for the picture in this sketchbook and for the guardship, see note to folio 62 recto (D06457; Turner Bequest XCIX 58).
