Joseph Mallord William Turner Inscription by Turner: Names of Months c.1808-18

Joseph Mallord William Turner 1775–1851
Folio 60 Recto:
Inscription by Turner: Names of Months c.1808–18
D12206
Turner Bequest CLIV a 59
Pencil on white wove paper, 112 x 89 mm
Inscribed by Turner in pencil (see main catalogue entry)
Inscribed by John Ruskin in red ink ‘59’ top right, ascending vertically (smudged)
Stamped in black ‘CLIV (a) – 59’ top right, ascending vertically

Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
With the page turned vertically, Turner has written at the top in a cursive script:
Januaray
January
Feburary
The significance of these misspellings is unclear. It is almost as if he is doodling, yet a variation on this inscription appears, overwritten with a more extensive, unrelated one, on folio 59 recto (D12204; CLIV a 58).
Verso:
Blank
