David Hill notes that Turner’s ‘37’ is apparently a mistake, as the North Wales sketchbook (Tate; Turner Bequest XXXIX) is also numbered ‘37’ alongside his ‘38’, the Welsh Dolbadarn sketchbook (Tate; Turner Bequest XLVI). Turner probably meant to number the present book ‘73’, to group it with the Thames-related Hesperides (1), Hesperides (2), and Wey Guildford sketchbooks (Tate; Turner Bequest XCIII, XCIV, XCVIII), respectively labelled ‘71’, ‘72’ and ‘74’.1
