Matthieu Pinette identifies this sketch as the interior of the large Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame and Saint-Laurent at Eu as seen from the end of the ambulatory.1 The blue area to the left represents the recession of columns down the south aisle while the warmer area of yellows and ruddy browns to the right may be intended to show one of the apertures through to the choir.2
Andrew Wilton notes both this sketch and D35442 (Turner Bequest CCCLIX 7) are remarkably similar in manner to comparable Italian subjects worked up over twenty-five years earlier; see Tate D16140 and D16141 (Turner Bequest CLXXXVII 52, 53).3
