This series of views depicts Kaub on the Rhine (see Tate D29721; Turner Bequest CCXCVI 64a). In the central sketch and the one below it Turner studies the toll castle of Pfalzgrafenstein (shortened to Pfalz), which is situated next to Kaub on a river island. Parallel to the gutter of the book is another summary sketch of Kaub.
