The subject of this sketch is very faint and almost impossible to discern owing to the dark and uneven nature of the grey background wash. However, the pencil details at the top of the sheet appear to depict a rocky or hilly shoreline with a castle dominating the right-hand side, possibly representing a view on Lake Maggiore.
