Drawn with the page turned horizontally, this is one of a series of studies made along the western shore of Ullswater; see also the rectos of folios 51–54, 56 and 57 (D01039–D01042, D01044, D01045; Turner Bequest XXXV 37, 38, 39, 40, 42, 43).
According to Turner scholar David Hill, folio 27 recto (D01080; Turner Bequest XXXV 78), which he identifies as a study of Aira Force, should be placed after the present leaf.
