This is a quick first impression of Marrick Priory from the east, drawn with the page turned horizontally, and sketched in greater detail in the Yorkshire 4 book (Tate D11471; Turner Bequest CXLVII 19), which accompanied him on the same tour. The present author has dated these sketches to Monday 29 July 1816.1
