The principal sketch shows Munich from the Isartor, a medieval city gate situated to the east of the old town and close to the Isar. In the background the Frauenkirche, Peterskirche and Heiliggesitkirche can be seen at left, centre and right respectively.
Turner has also made a rough sketch of buildings, possibly at Ulm (see Tate D29940; Turner Bequest CCXCVIII 64), to the left of the Munich view.
