Kastel, located on the right side of the Rhine opposite Mainz, is shown in the view inscribed ‘Mayence’ (the French for Mainz). A view of Namur, its citadel and the Meuse valley is rendered above, orientated with the sketchbook turned upside down relative to the foliation (see Tate D29620; Turner Bequest CCXCVI 12a).
