This view, taken with the sketchbook turned upside down, shows Namur in Belgium. Turner draws close to the confluence of the Sambre and Meuse, looking up the Meuse toward the bridge and Jambes at left. Namur citadel can be seen atop the heights at centre, with the Hospice d’Harscamp visible at right (see Tate D20108; Turner Bequest CCXVII 15).
