This sketch of Neidpath Castle was made from Castle Banks, the rise to the north of the castle, and shows the tower house with the River Tweed twisting beneath it to the right. Unlike the similar view on folio 6 verso (D26106), here Turner has paid more attention to the architecture of the castle, drawing the chimney pots and windows and suggesting the stonework, as well as shading parts of the structure to help define its shape. There is also a very similar view on folio 8 verso (D26110).
For further information about Turner’s ten sketches of the castle, see folio 5 (D26103).
