These sketches show aspects of Boppard (inscribed right, centre) in the Rhine Gorge. Many of the town’s landmarks are depicted, including the twin-spired Church of Saint Severus, the tower of the electoral castle or Burg (centre left), various towers including the Sandtor, and the Ritter Ritter‑Schwalbach Haus (depicted in the rear view, surrounded by the city walls, the spires of St Severus Church in the background). Turner has inscribed ‘Gate at Boppard’ below the rear view.
