With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled much of this page with a study of the Château de Rambouillet in its wooded setting, located some thirty miles south-west of Paris. The house’s crenellated round tower can be seen rising above the rest of the edifice. Turner made several sketches of this site in the present volume, a list of which is provided in the sketchbook Introduction.
