With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled much of this page with a study of a highly ornamented façade in the French Renaissance style. With its medallions and friezes, the building appears to be secular in character, perhaps a civic hall or palace. This volume includes multiple drawings of locations with buildings of this date, including especially Paris and the Île-de-France. These are listed in the sketchbook Introduction for comparison.
