These sketches were taken from beyond the Lorelei, a slate cliff on the eastern bank of the Rhine which soars some four hundred and thirty-three feet above the waterline. The sketches show the Marxburg (inscribed ‘Marksburg’) and the Martinsburg at Oberlahnstein in the sky to the right. The remaining sketches depict the Burg Lahneck overlooking the confluence of the Lahn and Rhine at Lahnstein (inscribed ‘Lahnstin’), and the Burg Katz (inscribed ‘Katz’) at rear.
