This is the right half of a double-page spread continued from folio 35 verso (D10933), opposite recording the view of Ripon from the north-east, from the top of Bell Bank on left bank of the River Ure slightly upstream of the village of Sharow. It is one of three sketches taken in the same vicinity. A sketch on folio 35 recto (D10932) shows a similar view of the Minster from the southern end of Bell Bank, and the Yorkshire 3 sketchbook records the view from a lower vantage point and slightly further north (Tate D11383; Turner Bequest CXLVI 9). In the present sketchbook, a detailed study of the Minster from this angle but from a nearer viewpoint follows on the verso (D10935).
For Bell Bank see 35 verso (D10933).
