The larger, more finished sketch on this page depicts the northern bank of the River Tay, just south of Kinnoull Hill near Perth, with Kinnoull Tower on the hill overlooking shipping on the river. This sketch was made either from the water or from the southern bank of the river to the west of the tower. Tuner made a similar view on the reverse of this page (folio 30 verso; D26746; CCLXXII 42).
Across the bottom of the page, drawn with the sketchbook inverted, is another, much quicker sketch of the hillside and tower, this time from the south-east. Turner made further sketches of the folly on folios 27 verso and 28 verso (D26724, D26723; CCLXXII 31, 30a), and there is a view of the River Tay with shipping on folio 29 verso (D26720; CCLXXII 29). Turner also made sketches of the nearby Kinfauns Castle (see folio 27 verso) and of Perth (see folio 31 verso; D26744, CCLXXII 41).
