This sketch of Roslin Castle has a similar view to a drawing earlier in the sketchbook (folio 26 verso; D13500) and to another in the Scotch Antiquities sketchbook (Tate D13704; Turner Bequest CLXVI 69). We look up at the castle from the glen below with a mass of trees and shrubs covering the hillside on folio 39 (D13525; CLXVI 39) where the sketch continues. There is another view of Roslin Castle on folio 39.
At the bottom of the present page is a slight sketch of a building on a headland, perhaps Blackness Castle in the Firth of Forth, though it is not clear enough to be certain, especially as the two drawings overlap.
