From a vantage point on the Laurensstraat, here Turner has produced a study of St Lawrence’s Church in the centre of Rotterdam. Built between 1449 and 1525, it is the one of the only medieval buildings to have survived extensive bombing during World War Two. The drawing is continued on the folio opposite (Tate D32484; Turner Bequest CCCXXI 21).
