Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, at the top is a study of the skyline of Roman ruins at Richborough Castle, near Sandwich in Kent; see under folio 95 recto (D35658) for others views. Below are slight coastal studies, one of which appears annotated to indicate Pegwell Bay, not far from Richborough; see also folio 108 recto (D35683).
Technical notes:
There is some brown staining at the gutter, possibly indicating water damage in the 1928 Tate flood.
